Discover Lemongrass Thai & Sushi 3

Walking into Lemongrass Thai & Sushi 3 feels like stepping into a familiar neighborhood spot that just happens to serve food you’d expect in a much bigger city. Located at 1103 Columbus Pkwy, Opelika, AL 36804, United States, this restaurant has quietly built a reputation among locals who want variety without sacrificing quality. I first stopped in after a long workday, expecting a quick dinner, and ended up staying far longer than planned because the menu pulled me in with its mix of Thai comfort dishes and carefully prepared sushi.

What stands out right away is how the kitchen balances two distinct cuisines. Thai cooking relies heavily on harmony between sweet, salty, sour, and spicy flavors, a principle supported by culinary research from organizations like the Thai Trade Center USA, which emphasizes balance as the foundation of authentic Thai food. That balance shows up here in dishes like pad thai with tamarind-forward sauce and curries that use coconut milk without overwhelming the spices. At the same time, the sushi side follows clean, methodical preparation, something I’ve seen firsthand when watching the chefs work behind the counter with practiced precision.

The menu is broad but not confusing. For Thai food fans, classics like drunken noodles, basil chicken, and green curry are prepared consistently, which matters more than novelty. A friend of mine, who tracks online reviews obsessively, pointed out that consistency is one of the most mentioned positives across local dining platforms. From a practical standpoint, that tells you the kitchen has processes in place, from sauce prep to ingredient sourcing, that don’t change day to day. On the sushi side, rolls are made to order, rice is properly seasoned, and fish is cut fresh, not pre-sliced hours ahead, which is something the FDA’s food handling guidelines recommend for quality and safety.

One visit that really stuck with me was a casual lunch where I ordered a sushi and Thai combo. The server suggested pairing a spicy tuna roll with tom yum soup, explaining how the citrusy broth helps reset your palate between bites. That kind of guidance doesn’t come from a script; it comes from staff who actually eat the food. You feel that experience in the way recommendations are made naturally, not pushed.

Service plays a big role in why people keep coming back. Industry data from the National Restaurant Association shows that friendly, informed service significantly impacts repeat visits, especially for casual dining restaurants. At this location, the staff remembers regulars and adjusts spice levels without being asked twice. During one dinner, I overheard a server explain to a first-time guest how to customize heat levels, using simple comparisons rather than vague terms, which builds trust fast.

Reviews around Opelika often mention value, and that’s fair. Portions are generous without being wasteful, and pricing aligns well with quality. While this isn’t fine dining, the care put into plating and timing shows professional standards. That reliability is especially important for families and groups who don’t want surprises when ordering for multiple people.

There are a few limitations worth noting. During peak dinner hours, wait times can stretch, and parking along Columbus Parkway can be tight. Still, those are common trade-offs for popular locations, and the restaurant seems aware, turning tables efficiently without rushing guests.

What keeps this place relevant is how it fits into the local food scene. It’s not trying to reinvent Thai food or sushi; it’s focused on doing both well, in one spot, for people who want options. That grounded approach, backed by solid technique and genuine hospitality, explains why it continues to earn positive reviews and steady word-of-mouth in Opelika.

  • I am an 8 year old girl traveling to Montgomery Alabama and I went here. My favorite part was the cat robot and the robot came with my avocado sushi that I ordered. My sister and I kept laughing because the robot was so cute and funny and the waitress patted it on the head and told it “you can go now” and then it went away. The food was great I recommend you going there!

  • We usually just drive by Lemongrass on 280 but so glad we finally decided to stop. We dined with a large group and everyone said their meal was great. Really enjoyed the sushi and Thai fried rice. Most the business seemed to be takeout so there was plenty of available seating. They also had a cute robot that brought out a birthday friend ice cream. Fun way to end the meal!

  • Always having great time here. The owners are my friends and I know they're very selective in where they get the ingredients, only at where it's fresh and high quality. The result is good food and good vibe.

  • Top 5 sushi places we have been! Little more expensive than some places, but we r willing to pay more for damn good sushi!! $40 for 2 sushi rolls and edamame beans . They were bigger rolls than most places AND. I love the way the socials were sliced thinly!!!! The place is old and needs some restorations inside and out, but food well worth it! check out their daily specials, we missed the 50% off of sushi day, which is on Wednesdays. Today was Thursday and they had 50% off their fried rice. However, we were just in the mood for sushi today.

  • Conveniently situated off the interstate. The major draw is the cute robot that delivers food to each table. I had the tofu and vegetables w/rice. It was tasty.
